Many can even double up as an outdoor blanket in the warmer months. Below we have looked to summarise some of the most common ways that throws are not only categorised, but used in the modern home.

Sofa Throws - There is no better feeling than snuggling up in front of the TV and perhaps even a warm fire on a cold night. Sofa or couch throws are extremely practical for keeping you or your guests warm and snuggly throughout the night. When not in use, they can be draped over an arm or seat to create a cosy and attractive atmosphere in your living room.

Throws also add an instant refresh to any living space, showing your unique personality. Often available in a variety of colourful designs, throws are a statement piece which help you to essentially redecorate and get a new look without having to spend all of the money you would on a large piece of furniture.

These are also available in a range of materials from cable-knit and chunky knits to lambs wool or simple cotton. Before buying your throw, think about how it will be used to ensure you get the right one. Cotton throw blankets tend to be more durable and can be washed without getting bobbly, worn or the colour fading. Other fabrics such as wool are popular because they hold up well to use, but do need to be washed more gently to preserve their look and feel, ensuring the wool does not unravel over time.
