Most rugs will be accompanied with manufacturer instructions, so consult these before attempting to clean your new rug. In general, most rugs can be cleaned with a vacuum on low suction however, if you have a shaggy rug it may be best to shake your rug to loosen any hidden dirt and dust, then use a soft brush to sweep clean preventing any damage to both vacuum and rug.
When cleaning Natural Fibre/Loop Pile Rugs it is best to use a suction only setting and not deep pile brushes and work across the rug in a smooth motion avoiding the risk of unlooping and pulling out fibres.
Machine-Made Rugs have been designed to be hardwearing durable rugs which are easy to clean, most machine-made rugs can be cleaned using a vacuum on normal settings. By turning these rugs over occasionally and vacuuming the underside of the rug you will help loosen any dirt that may be deep into the fibres.
